These days, bathrooms are not so much utilitarian and practical spaces, but are increasingly becoming rooms in our home where we go to relax and unwind. This year’s bathroom trends certainly reflect this- with statement baths and invisible drains, 2019’s top bathroom styles offer the full spa experience coupled with bold and unique design. 

Here are five stunning bathroom trends which you can expect to see this coming year:

Geometric tiles

The return of art deco geometric tiles has made a big impact on the interior design world over the past few years. In both kitchens and bathrooms, we’re seeing monochrome styles which make a real statement. This year, expect to see geometric bathroom tiles coupled with pewter and gunmetal faucets. 

For the bold homeowners among us, why not anchor your geometric design with colourful sanitaryware? We’re not encouraging a return to the avocado toilets of the 1970s, but by choosing contemporary hues like pistachio, strawberry or blueberry, your bathroom will be a feast for the eyes.

Monochrome glamour

Whilst white bathrooms can feel sparse and clinical, an emerging trend this year has added a touch of glamour to an otherwise bland design. Team white and grey marble floor tiles with white walls tiles that have shimmery accents- when the sun is shining and the bathroom is full of steam these sparkly details will surely put a smile on your face.

This style represents the harmonious marriage of two long-standing interior design trends: rustic exposed wood with industrial stone and brickwork. Expect to see sink basins atop natural wood plinths and exposed shower plumbing as a homage to the functional nature of our bathrooms. 

For a dramatic look, some bathrooms make a showcase of concrete or exposed brickwork with organic wood cladding or flooring- this combination creates something truly unique.

Cost-effective wallpaper

For those of us with a flair for design but a smaller budget, using wallpaper to add interest to our bathrooms is a great way to save pennies. Rather than tiling the entire room which is bound to be expensive, use plain metro tiles where necessary and fill in the gaps with a bright and colourful patterned wallpaper. 

Just remember- don’t wallpaper behind the bath, shower or basin and seal the paper with a matte decorator’s varnish to keep it fresh.

Statement cloakroom

Again, if you’ve got an eye for design but you’re not willing to spend thousands on a new look for your bathroom, why not simply update your cloakroom or WC? Small spaces are perfect for injecting high-drama and expressing your artistic flair. 

There are plenty of ways you can make a statement in a cloakroom, but in 2019 we mostly expect to see one of three opulent styles: large marble slabs (no need for grouting!), eye-catching wallpapers or dark and mysterious colour schemes- gentleman’s club style.
